It's the most wonderful time of the year! But, it's also the most tempting time of year.
For most, holiday meals suggest togetherness, tradition and time spent with loved ones. But for some, the elevated focus on food can trigger anxiety and stress. The key to managing this stress is preparation. We hope these tips will help you manage the festivities ahead!
1. shift your focus
With all the hustle and bustle, we sometimes forget what the holidays are actually about: spending time with the ones we love. The next social party you’re invited to, remember that you’re there to gather, not just to eat. Eat a healthy meal beforehand and spend more time catching up and less time at the buffet.
2. Be a snack smuggler
Ain’t no shame in my prepared snack game. I literally always have a Keto Bar in my bag. I can’t tell you how many times these bars have saved me when I’m starting to get hangry and tempted to hit up a drive through. These will be holiday party secret weapon.
3. love vs. like
This might be my favorite rule. So often we pile up our plates with every dish on the table, knowing well that we don’t love all of those items. This year try to stay mindful and only choose the foods that bring you real enjoyment. If you don’t love something, let it go.
4. Eat low to high
Start with low calorie items and then build up to the high. I like to have a big plate of salad or soup first, then move on to the meat. If I’m still hungry after that I will choose which side I really want to try.
5. BYE, BYE GUILT
Okay, maybe this is my favorite rule. Yes, it would be amazing if we could remain healthy and remain keto throughout the holidays, but if you don’t, don’t worry! When we beat ourselves up for indulging it can lead to some unhealthy behavior. Remember, you are in control. Not the food.
6. BYO
Most parties are pot lucks. This is a great opportunity for you to bring a dish that you love and that you know you can eat. This also goes for booze…. make a healthy punch, or spritzer and bring it along. No one gets mad when someone brings extra booze!
